Micke Åstrand

Micke Åstrand has his roots in Åtvidaberg and is greatly inspired by old industrial environments. He decided to leave his career in the restaurant business and graduated from Beckmans College of Design in 2004. A project during his studies with Ann Wåhlström as supervisor sparked his interest in glass, and a curiosity about the importance of objects for interiors and spatiality has led him both to product design and the design of entire exhibition environments. It is often the tangible, visual impressions that give him inspiration, as well as ideas on how products can be further developed. Reuse and sustainability is a strong driving force, and his candle lanterns for Reijmyre named "Never Ever Melt" reflect a desire for a more permanent approach to the things around us.
